Our Visit to Los Angeles

I preached 3 Sundays and 2 prayer meetings. We visited Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hollywood Blvd. Nice vacation plus great fellowship with Miguel Morales church.

We combined a preaching visit to LA with Kelsie’s 15th birthday gift and went to Los Angeles CA for 2 weeks. It is really the first real vacation we have had since about 2002. Brother Miguel Morales of Iglesia Bautista Fuente de la Salvación in Canoga Park, invited us to come up as a family. We stayed with this dear brother for the entire time, and he treated us like kings. We appreciate their support and love for our ministry and us. Their church had several events through out the two weeks, including a trip to a national park for baptisms the last Sunday, and Monday June 7, they had a cook out for me (it was my birthday). We had a very enjoyable time there with trips to Disney, Universal Studios, and Miguel and family took us to Santa Monica for a day which was also nice, even though that particular day it was cold. The kids enjoyed everything I think. We would like to publically thank Miguel and Noemi and their church for all they did for us over this visit. It was extremely pleasant, and Miguel and I had a lot of really nice fellowship.

Tule got her shopping in, and we were able to visit with Tule’s sister, and were able to present the plan of salvation to Tule’s two nephews, and Beto accepted the Lord. We are still praying for Juan. We were able to visit with Beto several times after he accepted the Lord.

Back on the “home front”, I left about 5 of our men to preach in my place, and it appears that they did a good job. We had new visitors come during our time out of Mexico City, and the men are working still, going out on Saturday visitation, and working with the youth. We are praying about our trip from August to November of this year to the US. We have to renew Tule’s Green Card (a US immigration document) so we will be in Indiana and South Carolina. Please contact us if you church wishes us to visit with you.

I still feel a deep burden for these preachers. In our own church we have about a half dozen men who are wanting to study the Bible more intensely, and the free Bible program, TheWord, that I am supporting by writing modules, is the perfect help for their studies. Miguel Morales also has several men in the same situation. So what I feel God is moving me to do is to dedicate time this summer to try and shape up a complete Bible help, that is with a commentary, Bible Dictionary, Bible Maps, Bible Introductions Books, and more reference books. I have been working on these slowly but I really need to spend more time on them so that they will be ready sooner. I have about 70 books which I have written which I will put into this program, and I continue to work on more.

In Spanish there is very little free Bible reference material out there. All is very costly. My labors is to put out good quality materials for free. The program is free, and we have a few commentaries (like Matthew Henry in Spanish) and dictionaries already in Spanish from other people, but the material is very sparse, and some of the dictionaries are by Catholics which makes them of little use. I have over 60 English Bible Dictionaries that I am using but the majority are image page PDFS (which means you can see them like a photo, but you cannot search for words in them). Even so, they are very useful for me making my own Spanish Bible Dictionary. So I am working slowly on that. It is my heart’s desire that we produce good quality Bible resource and reference books at no cost. While it seems everybody else in the Christian world is forming ministries around a sell to make profit beside a “we are a ministry give to us” presentation, we don’t sell anything. We take donations which very few people seem willing or able to give. We desire our “pay” in heaven and not “squeezing turnips” to get a buck out of our Christian brethren. Although you probably don’t believe it, many times, those $20 dollar donations that people give to us occasionally are what makes all the difference in the world to our ministry. We work on an extremely low profile budget, and we are getting something done.

I will post some of the comments from people in Spanish about our tracts and books later, but really, our ministry is benefitting a lot of people around the world. We have probably 30 some books that I have written that people are downloading more than 350 times per month. On my old website www.davidcox.com.mx , people download more than 10 gigabytes of information per month. I still am having problems with my 10 gigabyte limit being exceeded around 25th of each month. People are seeing and downloading, and a lot of people download. Please pray that God will allow us to continue this ministry. As the US goes into a depression, many of our supporting churches have problems giving to our ministry. It is a matter of serious prayer.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for the two salvation decisions in Miguel’s church in LA the last Sunday in National Park. They were invited guests, and they accepted the Lord. Miguel is going to disciple them. Also please pray for Beto and Sofia, Tule’s nephew and niece, that they would get into a good local church and grow spiritually. We are still praying for Juan and Dina, and Loi, Tule’s other nephews.

Please pray for our church as we continue to grow and have size problems. Recently we have had to take the smaller children out of the main service (missing the preliminaries before the preaching). Normally they leave just before the preaching so the teachers can be in part of the worship service before they take the kids to their Sunday School classes, but because of filling up the auditorium, they are being taken out earlier. Please pray that God would give us a larger place, and possibly our own building sometime soon.

Also pray for our men as they prepare sermons for the months that we will be gone. It is very difficult work for these men to do because they haven’t had formal preparation, and I try to give some mini-classes on how to preach and teach. It is difficult, but we are slowly growing in that department also.

Please pray for us as these trips to the US are very costly for us. Between Miguel Morales and a very generous donation from Santee Bible Baptist Church in Santee SC, they paid for everything for our trip California. We will be in the US from August 2010 to November 2010 Lord willing, and we will be traveling and staying with friends and family. We are trying to arrange to stay in places where we won’t have to pay for hotel. We will have to keep our house in Mexico (paying rent and bills there), and pay for US travel which is expensive.

If you would like to send us even a single gift (especially during that span of August to November), we would appreciate it greatly. Please go to the following page… (this link is also in the orange “pages” post-it note at right).
