Catholicism is by far the most dominant religion in Mexico, although most Catholics are very “irreligious”. In other words, in the modern version of Catholicism, you basically don’t have to do much to actually “be Catholic”. Basically, you are christened shortly after being born, have the first communion, you marry in the Catholic church, and your funeral is in the Catholic church.
